If you’re here, I’m going to guess something…

You’ve been thinking about doing a boudoir session, maybe for a while!

You’re curious. You’re excited.

But you’re also a little nervous.

And I just want to start by saying this:

That feeling is completely normal!

In fact, almost every single woman who walks into my studio feels that way at first. And then something shifts as we get into it. Because there's something so incredibly powerful about just showing up and letting the experience change the way you see yourself.

So if you’re wondering how to prepare for a boudoir shoot…especially when your brain is doing that thing where it overthinks everything…you’re in the right place!

Let’s walk through it together. 💕

First… Let’s Talk About the Nerves

I had a client once who sat in her car for ten minutes before coming in.

She later told me that she almost drove away.

She kept thinking…

“What if I’m awkward?”

“What if I don’t look like the girls on Instagram?”

“What if I’m not confident enough for this?”

But she did something that was SO hard to do. She came in anyway!

She didn't let those fears and doubts stop her.

And by the end of her session, she didn’t want to leave!

She told me, “I didn’t think I could feel like this in my own body.”

And that’s the part no one really tells you…

Confidence isn’t something you need before your session.

It’s something that happens during it.

How to Prepare for a NH Boudoir Shoot (Without Overthinking It)

Here’s where I want you to take a deep breath…

Because preparing for your session doesn’t have to be complicated. Actually, simpler is way better!

This is something I always tell my clients:

You don’t need to become a different version of yourself to do this.

You just need to show up.

But if you’re someone who likes to feel a little more “ready”… here are a few things that truly make a difference.

1. Start With How You Want to Feel

I'll say it again. Start with how you want to feel, not what you want to look like.

This is where a lot of women get stuck…

They start Googling poses, buying outfits they don’t even feel comfortable in, trying to “get it right.”

But let me ask you this…

If there were no rules, what would make you feel like a total badass?

An oversized sweater?

A robe?

Nothing at all?

Sexy isn’t a fabric, it’s a vibe.

And when you feel good about yourself…it shows up in every single photo!

2. Give Your Body a Little Extra Love (But Keep It Real)

You don’t need a full transformation before your session.

You don’t need to lose weight or tone up or fix anything.

But…taking care of your body leading up to your shoot? That matters.

So drink your water.

Get some good sleep.

Eat something that makes you feel energized. Please do not skip breakfast!

It’s the small things that help you feel more present and connected in your body, and that shows up on camera in the most beautiful way.

3. Avoid the Sneaky Things That Can Trip You Up

This is where a little preparation goes a long way!

On the day of your shoot, wear loose, comfy clothing. Tight bras, socks, or leggings can leave marks on your skin that stick around longer than you’d think.

And trust me, you don’t want to be worrying about that when you’re trying to relax and enjoy your session.

The same goes for sun exposure! Tan lines and sunburn can be distracting, and honestly your natural skin tone is already gorgeous.

4. Grooming Tips That Actually Matter

Okay let’s talk about this in a real way for a second.

Yes, grooming can help you feel more polished, but it doesn’t need to be stressful.

If you wax, do it about 5 to 7 days before your shoot so your skin has time to calm down. If you shave, the night before or morning of is perfect!

And if you’re looking for a simple routine that works, these are a few of my go-to favorites that my clients love:

Also…can we please normalize something real quick?

Booty pimples happen. Razor bumps happen. Skin is skin.

I promise you, I’ve seen it all! You are not the exception.

5. Hair and Makeup… It’s About the Experience

Professional hair and makeup is such an important part to your boudoir session experience.

It's not to change who you are or what you look like, but to bring out the features that you already have!

But even bigger than that, it gives you a moment to slow down. To be taken care of. To ease into the experience. To know that you can simply enjoy this for yourself.

And that's why I offer professional hair and makeup with every one of my packages.

I’ve had so many clients tell me that this is the moment their nerves started to melt away…because they finally had a second to just sit, breathe, and feel taken care of.

6. The Most Important Boudoir Prep Step

(That No One Talks About)

I’m going to ask you to do something that might feel a little uncomfortable…but stay with me.

I want you to spend a few minutes looking at yourself in the mirror.

Not picking yourself apart. Not analyzing.

Just…looking.

Getting used to your body. Your shape. Your presence.

Because the more familiar you are with yourself, the less shocking it feels to be seen.

And this is where everything starts to shift.

7. You Don’t Need to Know How to Pose

(That’s My Job!)

I hear this all the time…

“I don’t know how to pose.”

Girl you’re not supposed to!

That’s literally why I’m here.

I will guide you through everything. What to do with your hands. Where to look. How to move.

You don’t need to perform. You don’t need to “get it right.”

You just need to breathe and enjoy the process! Don't worry, I've got you.

8. Boudoir Prep in NH: What Makes This Experience Different

If you’re searching for boudoir prep in NH, you’re probably seeing a lot of checklists…

What to bring. What to wear. What to do.

And yes, those things matter.

But what actually makes the biggest difference?

It's all about you feeling safe.

Feeling like you’re not being judged.

Feeling like you don’t have to be perfect.

That’s something I’ve built my entire studio around.

Because when you feel safe…you open up.

And when you open up…that’s when the magic happens.

What My Clients Say After Their Session

One of the things I hear the most?

“I was so nervous…but this ended up being the best thing I’ve ever done for myself.”

Another client told me she walked in feeling unsure…and she left feeling like she could “take on the world.”

That transformation isn’t rare. It’s actually the norm.

Because when you give yourself permission to step outside your comfort zone, something really powerful happens.

Final Thoughts… You’re More Ready Than You Think

If you’ve been waiting to feel 100% ready before booking your session…

You might be waiting forever.

There will always be a reason to wait.

A few more pounds. A busier season. A little more confidence.

But the real honest truth that I've seen as a boudoir photographer who's worked with hundreds of women?

You don’t need any of that to start.

You just need a willingness to show up.

A willingness to try something new.

A willingness to see yourself differently.

And I promise you…I’ll meet you the rest of the way.

If you want to see exactly what this experience feels like from my perspective, I made this video for you.
